MoBerries Interview with Tenera (Part 1/2)

Tenera (Digital Rocks GmbH) is based in Berlin and was founded in February 2020 in conjunction with two well-established corporate companies: Carmeuse, a leading manufacturer of calcium and dolomitic lime with over 150 years of experience in the industry, and BCG Digital Ventures, the consulting and startup company expert in digital innovation.

Our Connected Construction Platform (CCP) is the first solution based on the modular principle, offering the opportunity to develop use cases tailored to the individual needs of companies.

Tenera is revolutionizing the construction industry by offering intelligent digital solutions to ensure the consistent success of construction projects. Our goal is to offer a user-friendly and efficient tool that supports our customers in unlocking the potential of data, automating workflows, minimizing risk, and increasing revenue.

Describe Teneras value proposition

We are a team of over 35 analysts, makers and developers, with a vision of harmonizing the construction industry. Our strength lies in our agile workflow. Through our diverse skills and backgrounds, we are able to tackle and solve challenges from different perspectives. 

We have our origin in the partnership of Carmeuse and BCG DV, two global players with expertise in digitalization and the construction industry.

How would you describe your team mentality?

What does Tenera offer its employees? Are there any special team activities?

We have several perks & benefits for our new joiners. We are a remote-first company but our office, located in the wonderful Prenzlauer Berg in the heart of Berlin, is always open to team members who want to work from the office and meet their team in person.

In our office, we provide drinks, breakfast and Barista-quality coffee in our personal coffee space on the ground floor and we organize regular remote and in-person events (in alignment with current Covid-19 regulations). 

Furthermore, we have an annual training & learning budget, a company pension scheme and a flexible home-office and remote-work policy, that gives the option to our teams to work from any location and with flexible working hours.

What does a workday at Tenera look like? (What kind of work environment? What challenges?)

At Tenera there is no ‘typical’ day and they really differ depending on the team and role.

The time at which we start and finish working can be quite flexible and we let everybody arrange their own work schedule to fit team meetings, personal productivity and work-life balance. Generally, most teams begin their day with a stand-up meeting, but the time, as well as the frequency of their internal meetings, is set by the individual teams.

As a remote-first company, this same flexibility applies to the working location. Everybody can decide whether to work from home or join the team in the office, whether to join a meeting remotely or to schedule onsite meetings in the office or in our own coffee spot.

We keep our Slack status up to date to help our co-workers to know when we are (back) online, in a meeting or we need some focused time.

Tenera’s working culture is based on trust and our team really enjoys this flexibility, which allows everybody to easily adapt to each other's working schedule and working style.

For Tenera, what are the main characteristics that are important in a good applicant?

Tenera is a young, dynamic and international startup located in the heart of Berlin with the mission of rebooting a traditional industry such as the construction industry. This means that by joining Tenera you can have a high degree of independence and ownership, build a lot of new things and processes from scratch, and have a huge impact on the product and the company.

Digitizing the construction industry is a challenging yet ambitious purpose. As the market is still unexplored, there are countless opportunities to really have an impact on the building industry and fundamentally change the way they work by developing something unprecedented.

The same drive, vision and purpose-driven mindset is also reflected in the Tenera team.
